How do I pay for care?
Your payment options depend on your situation. Some payment options include: Private pay, long-term care insurance, Medicare and Medicaid. Medicare and private insurances only cover a limited amount of long-term services and supports. If Medicare or long-term care insurance does not cover the cost of your care and you have limited private resources, you can apply for Medicaid. Visit the payment options page for more information.

Cost CalculatorWhat happens if you apply for Medicaid?
Before you can become eligible for Medicaid you will be asked to use your personal resources and/or other payment options to pay for your care needs. You will be asked to meet certain asset and income requirements and provide documentation. If you are living alone, you will also be asked to make a bona fide effort to sell your home. You will eligible for Medicaid once you meet the income and asset requirements. When your home is sold the proceeds from the sale of your home will be counted toward your assets and will be spent to pay for your care. If there are other people living in your home, there are important exceptions related to the sale of your home.
Medicaid does not typically cover assisted living. While there are a few exceptions, once you have spent your resources and you have no other payment options, will have to move out of the assisted living facility.
